Hundreds Desperate Enough to Seek Coal Mine Jobs

The job fair in Sullivan was the second in less than two weeks. Mine company officials say a job fair in Vincennes last week drew more than 1,100 applicants.

Black Panther Mining and Five Star Mining plan to open two underground coal mines near Oaktown, about 30 miles south of Terre Haute, by the end of 2010.

The mining jobs will pay $21 an hour, plus benefits.
