Jackson Laboratory Cuts 55 jobs

Bar Harbor, Maine’s Jackson Laboratory is eliminating about 55 jobs, and cutting its workweek from 40 to 37 1/2 hours for 315 hourly employees.The biomedical research lab breeds mice used in research.
President Rick Woychik says the moves will keep the nonprofit on “solid financial footing.”
Mouse sales are growing slower than projected, due to reduced spending by the pharmaceutical & biotechnology industries and academic research labs.
Jackson Laboratory now employs 1,372, making it the largest employer in Hancock County, Maine.
