Chinese Premier Promises 9 Million New Jobs within This Year By EmploymentCrossing  |  Dated: 03-05-2012

Job announcements do keep the moral high whether you get a job or not. While the job scene has been looking better with temporary jobs pulling down jobless rates and research studies claiming huge numbers of jobs to grow once the election is over, the Chinese decided they are not to be outdone.

On Monday morning, the Premier of China Wen Jiabao to the Chinese parliament that China aims to create more than 9 million new jobs this year as part of the government’s efforts to help people.

Addressing the Fifth Session of the 11th National People’s Congress, the Chinese Premier said “Employment is of great importance to China’s development and the people’s well being … We will continue to face great employment pressure this year, and governments at all levels must continue to follow the strategy of giving top priority to employment and more actively implement employment policies.”

According to the report issued by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, China will provide priority support to new service industries, innovative high-tech enterprises, and small and micro businesses. According to the report China has vowed to keep the unemployment rate below 4.6 percent in 2012. The report also mentions that in China 12.21 million new urban jobs were created in 2011.

There have been a slew of beneficial measures announced from the people of China, but one stands out from the rest: The Chinese government has announced that it will allow paid leaves for workers and also assure that employees who take paid leaves do not lose their jobs.

From a few years back, a system of paid leaves had been initiated in some industries where according to the length of service of an employee, paid leaves were available. However, most employees do not go on leaves because they are scared that they would lose jobs if the claim their rights.

Following the great number of worker suicides at Apple supplier Foxconn’s factories, after which Foxconn was compelled to put up giant nets to prevent people from jumping off roofs, the world’s attention has been drawn to the fate of workers in China. So, from next year, China would be supporting the practice of paid holidays.
