No Hiring for Those with H-1B Visas By jim  |  Dated: 06-14-2012

For people who are not citizens of the United States, having an H-1B temporary visa is quite important. These visas are issued to people who are not citizens of the United States, allowing them to work or attend school in the United States for an extended period of time, which is something that many people in other countries enjoy being able to do. While many of these individuals come to the United States for work, companies in the United States are not going to be allowed to hire people with the H-1B visas for quite a while. In fact, companies are not going to be able to employ H-1B workers until October of 2013.

The reason this has occurred is because the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services received a large amount of petitions, basically reach their quota. By the 7th of June, the USCIS has already gotten thousands of H-1B petitions for those who are apparently exempt from the cap due to certain circumstances. Those who are under the status of H-1B will still have the opportunity to switch jobs from one employer to another but that is only a particular circumstance. Many people believe that with this decision being made, more Americans will be able to find jobs, especially during a period in time where the economy is still struggling and job growth is still slow. However, it seems as though things are far more complex than this.

Many economists believe that the United States will deal with a number of consequences based on this decision alone. Many people may feel discouraged to make investments with the United States and because employers in the United States will not be able to hire the foreign individuals who have recently graduated, they may end up expanding their own offices to areas outside of the United States, which would only end up hurting the economy in America. Some of the smaller businesses may also have trouble finding the right kind of people for the work they need done which would then cause the businesses to struggle and possibly shut down.

Some may not have a problem with the hiring of foreign nationals but believe that those individuals should be working with a green card instead of an H-1B visa. However, this is a whole lot easier said than done, especially as there are a limited number of green cards that are provided to immigrants each year. Many of the foreign nationals have made attempts to obtain green cards and have had trouble obtaining them, seeing no current improvements being made with the process of obtaining the green cards. While some may think that holding off on hiring H-1B visa holders will improve the United States economy, there is a chance that it will only cause destruction.

Only TravelingCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
