Sanofi to Cut Between 1,000 and 2,000 Jobs By katie  |  Dated: 07-06-2012

Unless you happen to work in the medical field the Sanofi is not one you are likely to see every day at home or at work. For those of you who are not familiar with the company here is a look at how the company describes itself, “Sanofi is a diversified global healthcare leader with nearly 100,000 dedicated professions in more than 100 countries. Sanofi US, with headquarters in Bridgewater, New Jersey, along with our vaccines division, Sanofi Pasteur, employs more than 11,400 professionals throughout the country. We work to prevent and treat the diseases we know about today, as well as those we may face tomorrow.” The company makes products for a variety of different medical conditions.

Apparently, the company is hoping that they can do that work without a significant number of workers. The company is getting ready to layoff between 1,000 and 2,000 workers in a bid to decrease its overall costs. The job cuts are expected to all come from workers in France, and are expected to impact workers in the company’s manufacturing operating, most notably in the creation of vaccines for various diseases.

These are not the only job cuts to come to France in recent days. It seems like the nation is taking blow after blow when it comes to job losses. Some of you may recall our recent coverage of much larger scale job cuts in France, “The French automaker Peugeot has come to a rather startling decision, according to representatives of the union for the worker at the company is getting ready to trim back on a serious amount of its staff. How many people are going to be put out of a job? Well according to the current reports the company is looking to cut back on about ten percent of its workforce. In real terms this is about 10,000 workers whose jobs are on the line right now.  Those of you who pay attention to the job cuts may notice that this is a marked increase from the company’s former estimates. The company had previously thought that it was going to have to get rid of only about 6,000 workers. This increase of 4,000 more jobs is a serious hit to the workers of the company.” So, as you can imagine, it may be hard for workers in the French manufacturing industry to find jobs in the near future, as the market is going to flooded with people looking for jobs.

Interestingly enough the company has not put out a press release about the job cuts to be made. The company instead chose to put out a release out about diabetes. Here is an excerpt from that release, “Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY) and the Joslin Diabetes Center, a teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School, today announced a new collaboration to promote the development of new medicines for the treatment of diabetes and related disorders.  The collaboration was unveiled at the 2012 Bio International Convention in Boston, Mass.”
