Trane to Cut Hundreds of Jobs By katie  |  Dated: 08-06-2012

If I said the name Trane what would you think I was talking about? Would you guess we were talking about a company that focuses on air? For those of you who are not familiar with the company here is a look at how they have chosen to describe itself, “At Trane, we’re all about air – cool air, warm air, clean air. As a world leader in air conditioning systems, services and solutions, we control the comfort of the air for people in homes and many of the world’s largest and most famous commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. And we’re applying Trane’s expertise in environmental technology and energy conservation to make a difference in energy efficiency around the globe.”

Apparently the company is hoping to deal with all of that without the help of a number of its employees. For now the company has not disclosed the exact number, but it has been qualified as hundreds of workers who are going to put out of work as part of the current round of layoffs. That is enough to qualify as a mass layoff action under the current federal guidelines. For those of you who are not familiar with the idea of a mass layoff action here is a look at how the federal government defines the term, “The Mass Layoff Statistics (MLS) program collects reports on mass layoff actions that result in workers being separated from their jobs. Monthly mass layoff numbers are from establishments which have at least 50 initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) filed against them during a 5-week period. Extended mass layoff numbers (issued quarterly) are from a subset of such establishments—where private sector nonfarm employers indicate that 50 or more workers were separated from their jobs for at least 31 days.”

The only bring side is that all of these cuts are being made to workers who were hired on a temporary basis. This means that the workers knew that when all was said and done they would be put out of a job.

Sadly, this is not the only company in the area of manufacturing that are taking job hits in the currently downturned economy. For those of you who missed out some of our earlier coverage of job cuts to the manufacturing sector in the recent past, “When it comes to space we tend to think of airplanes as the property of the airlines and we do not give it much thought when it comes to the people who make them. One of those companies who, at least in part, make those planes is B/E Aerospace… Well, apparently the company is hoping to keep doing all of that without a number of their workers.  The company sent a WARN notice to the state of Florida notifying them that they are going to be getting rid of 55 workers in the near future. A WARN notice is sent to the state before a mass layoff action is taken by the company.”
