California To Train At-Risk Youth For Green Jobs

California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger has established the California Green Corps, a statewide effort to train at-risk young adults for jobs in the state’s green technology industry.

The program targets young people between the ages of 16 and 24.

The program will receive about $20 million in initial funding, half from the federal stimulus program and half from the private sector.

In its first phase, the Green Corps will consist of a 20-month pilot program in at least 10 locations around the state, training at least 1,000 youths to install solar panels, manufacture sheet metal for wind turbines, or construct environmentally friendly power plants.
