oneCARE to Cut Jobs By katie  |  Dated: 08-29-2012

oneCARE is a name that you might not know off the top of your head, even if you know some of the products that they make. For those of you who are not familiar with the company here is a look at how they have chosen to describe themselves, “The oneCARE company is a global manufacturer and distributer of products designed to take care of your world of diverse needs by helping to care for everything from your wardrobe, home and pets to your workplace. Learn more about the leaders that have shaped oneCARE into the progressive, dynamic environment that it is today.”

Sadly the company is looking tor streamline its operations. To that end they are closing down a facility in Waynesboro, Georgia. When all is said and done the closure of the facility will mean that 99 jobs will be lost to the local area. The company does expect to re-hire for about 70 of these jobs in another state.

These kinds of cuts are enough to qualify as a mass layoff action under the current federal guidelines. For those of you who are not familiar with the idea of a mass layoff action here is a look at how the federal government defines the term, “The Mass Layoff Statistics (MLS) program collects reports on mass layoff actions that result in workers being separated from their jobs. Monthly mass layoff numbers are from establishments which have at least 50 initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) filed against them during a 5-week period. Extended mass layoff numbers (issued quarterly) are from a subset of such establishments—where private sector nonfarm employers indicate that 50 or more workers were separated from their jobs for at least 31 days.” The only good news is that under the terms of a mass layoff action the company must give the workers several weeks of advance notice before taking them off of the payroll.

Interestingly enough the company made the decision in its latest release to highlight a product, instead of talking about the very serious action they are taking to their workers, “How wonderful!  Our Downy Wrinkle Releaser has been ranked #3 on the Huffington Post’s Top Ten Best Travel Gear for Summer 2012 List.  We agree that the Travel Size option is a must-have to keep you looking your best ANYTIME you are away from home, even if it’s only the short jog to the office!”

Of course layoffs are happening all over the manufacturing sector, for those of you who missed out on some of our earlier coverage here is an excerpt of our coverage to cuts at Sharp, “Sharp, a maker of many different types of televisions, as well as a few other device, is looking to get rid of a significant amount of its staff. The company is set to get rid of about 15 percent of its workers in order to save on costs. In absolute terms this means that about 8,000 workers are being put out of their jobs. For now the full extent of the cuts, in terms of locations, is not known but about 3,000 workers will come from manufacturing facilities in both Mexico and China. These two facilities, which are rumored to be up for sale, are representing less than half of the job losses on the whole. The company is not saying where the rest of the cuts are coming from, only that the layoffs are to come.”
