Rubbermaid to Make Large Scale Job Cuts By katie  |  Dated: 10-29-2012

Rubbermaid is a name that some of you may know, but for those of you who are not that familiar with the company  lets begin by talking about how the company has chosen to describe itself before we look at the jobs that they are cutting back on, “Rubbermaid is a leader in developing innovative, high-quality solutions that help consumers keep their homes in order. Widely recognized and trusted, Rubbermaid designs and markets a full range of organization, storage and cleaning products to keep the home – including closets, garages, kitchens and outdoor spaces – neat and functional, freeing consumers to enjoy life. Rubbermaid (http://www.rubbermaid.com) is part of Newell Rubbermaid’s global portfolio of brands.”

The company is getting ready to make some fairly sweeping changes to its structure, the kind that will result in the loss of about 2,000 jobs when all is said and done. While the company has not outlined too many of the job cuts in great detail, in terms of locations of types of positions that are set to be impacted by the job losses there is a chance that the company will trigger at least one mass layoff action. For those of you who are not familiar with the idea of a mass layoff action here is a look at how the federal government defines the term, “The Mass Layoff Statistics (MLS) program collects reports on mass layoff actions that result in workers being separated from their jobs. Monthly mass layoff numbers are from establishments which have at least 50 initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) filed against them during a 5-week period. Extended mass layoff numbers (issued quarterly) are from a subset of such establishments—where private sector nonfarm employers indicate that 50 or more workers were separated from their jobs for at least 31 days.”

Interestingly enough rather than talk about the changes that they needed to make the company chose, in a recent release to highlight the newest type of tupperwear that the company has made, “Rubbermaid® adds a new glass offering to its successful and helpful Easy Find Lids™ platform of food storage. Rubbermaid Glass with Easy Find Lids™ offers consumers the ability to cook, serve, store and reheat meals all in one container. And because they have the unique Easy Find Lids organization system, Rubbermaid Glass is easy to store and helps keep cabinets organized and clutter-free.”

This is not the only company in manufacturing that has made job cuts in the recent past. For those of you who missed out on our earlier coverage of job cuts to the Goodyear corporation here is an excerpt that will get you up to speed in no time at all, “Sadly the company is not being so good to the company. They are getting ready to cut back on workers in a plan to reduce their expenses. The company will be cutting workers at its Fayetteville facility, and it total they expect about 200 workers will be impacted by the job cuts. These job losses are, if they come in a single wave, enough to qualify as a mass layoff action under the current federal guidelines.”
