Employment in City of Dunwood Increasing By jim  |  Dated: 11-21-2012

Dunwoody employment has been on a stable increase for two years, hitting its best mark in September.  In that same time, Dunwoody’s unemployment fell below 5 percent, 4 percent underneath Georgia’s average, according to the Dunwoody Crier.

The Georgia Department of Labor states that the number of Dunwoody citizens who had jobs in September was an increase of 2 percent, or 25,134 people, compared to the beginning of 2012.  It marks a 5 percent bump from September of two years ago.

The city created 739 positions in September as opposed to 2011.  The 3 percent bump in employment for the year was nearly twice the 1.7 percent rise in positions created in the state in the same timeframe.

Dunwoody’s unemployment mark displayed a downward trend for citizens who are on the hunt for jobs.

The city’s unemployment fell to 4.9 percent in September.  That represents a 1.9 percent drop from the beginning of the year and a 13.9 percent plummet when compared to September 2010.

Dunwoody’s unemployment figures are above the state and national average.  The city’s jobless estimate is underneath the state and national mark.  The state number is 9 percent and the national is 7.9 percent.

Job production in the city is believed to conclude 2012 on a good note, as seasonal employees will be brought on board by Dunwoody workers.

Stores and restaurants are also expanding their staff with the holidays on the way.  Seasonal gigs are expected to expand in other industries.

Elizabeth Gill is the president of a staffing establishment called Express Employment Professionals.  She details the why small businesses require seasonal employees in November and December.

“First, you have “peak and paper” industries, such as insurance, financial, and mortgage, who must submit paperwork and meet deadlines before the end of the year,” said Gill.

“There also is a growing trend for companies to hire temporary workers to staff roles of full-time workers who are trying to use up their remaining annual leave and vacation days. During December, in particular, the absence of large numbers of full-time workers creates significant gaps for many businesses, large and small, creating both a need and opportunity for temporary workers.”

Gill is not awe in that the city of Dunwoody has been flourishing of late.

“Dunwoody is just a great community,” said Gill. “It’s a city and a bedroom village combined, and the best of both. We’re seeing more and more businesses open in this area because of Dunwoody’s uniqueness.”

“There’s definitely movement in job growth within the Dunwoody market. Our business is up more than 30 percent over last year.  There seems to be a sense of urgency among businesses here to fill positions. The Dunwoody job market definitely is picking up dramatically.”
