Science Applications International Corporation  is a name that you may not know at all. For those of you who do not happen to recognize it by its shortened name SAIC, here is a look at how the company chooses to describe itself that will get you up to speed in no time at all, before we talk about the job cuts that the company is making, “Founded by J. Sadly the company is getting ready to cut back on about 700 workers, with the bulk of the job cuts set to come in the Washington area. This is odd because three days in the past week the company announced the acquisition of large contracts with the government.

The most recent contract was made with the U.S. Army Acquisition Center, “Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Army Acquisition Center- Aberdeen Proving Ground to provide software engineering and scientific support services to the Software Engineering Center (SEC), Communications Electronics Command (CECOM).  The multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a two-year base period of performance, one two-year option, one one-year option, and a total contract value of $7 billion for all awardees, if all options are exercised.  Work will be performed primarily at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Fort Lee, Va., Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Hood, TX, and Fort Huachuca, Ariz.”

The company also announced a deal with the United States Navy  this week , “Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the United States Navy to provide operational and environmental support for fleet training range complexes for the United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF) and Commander, United States Pacific Fleet. The single-award firm fixed-price contract has a one-year period of performance, four one-year options, and a total contract value of approximately $21 million, if all options are exercised.  Work will be performed primarily in Norfolk, Va., Virginia Beach, Va., Kauai, HI, Whidbey Island, Wash., San Diego, Calif., Fallon, Nev., El Centro, Calif, and Guam.”

A third contract this week was announced with the Department of the Army (DA) G2 Army Military Intelligence (MI) Enterprise, ” Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the United States Army to provide information technology (IT) design, implementation and operational sustainment support services to the Department of the Army (DA) G2 Army Military Intelligence (MI) Enterprise (DA GAME).  The single-award task order has a one-year base period of performance, two one-year options, one six-month option, and a total contract value of approximately $149 million, if all options are exercised.  The task order was awarded under the Solutions for the Information Technology Enterprise (SITE) contract vehicle.”
