Bostwick Laboratories to Cut Jobs By katie  |  Dated: 12-10-2012

Bostwick Laboratories is a name that most of you are not likely to have heard of at all. That is why today, before we talk about the job cuts being made by the company, we are going to get you up to speed by taking a moment to look at how they have chosen to describe themselves, “Bostwick Laboratories provides anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory services specializing in the monitoring and diagnosis of cancer. Bostwick Laboratories is a leader in urologic anatomic pathology with expertise and a growing presence in the dermatology, gastroenterology, gynecology, nephrology and hematology sectors of the anatomic pathology market. Led by CEO Martin Stefanelli & CMO David G. Bostwick, M.D., M.B.A., Bostwick Laboratories delivers world-class pathology services and support to physicians and patients who require absolute confidence in their results.”

Sadly the company is getting ready to get rid of 90 of its workers in a mass layoff action. Even sadder is the fact that cuts of this size represent a loss of the majority of the company, which employs less than 155 workers. For those of you who are not familiar with the idea of a mass layoff action here is a look at how the company chooses to describe itself, “The Mass Layoff Statistics (MLS) program collects reports on mass layoff actions that result in workers being separated from their jobs. Monthly mass layoff numbers are from establishments which have at least 50 initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) filed against them during a 5-week period. Extended mass layoff numbers (issued quarterly) are from a subset of such establishments—where private sector nonfarm employers indicate that 50 or more workers were separated from their jobs for at least 31 days.”

Interestingly enough, the company, in its most recent press release, chose not to talk about the job cuts that it is making, but instead to take a look at a presentation that the CMO of the company will be making at a conferenc, “Dr. David G. Bostwick, CMO of Bostwick Laboratories, is slated to present on ProstaVysion and BladderVysion, Bostwick Laboratories’ own prognostic panels for prostate and bladder cancer, at the American Urological Association’s 2012 Annual Meeting to be held on May 19-23 in Atlanta, GA. Located at booth #2831, Dr. Bostwick will be making three presentations per day on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. Each presentation will last approximately 10 minutes, followed by a short question and answer session. Space will be limited, so make sure to arrive early.”

For the time being the company has not confirmed the layoffs, and they have not talked about when the job cuts may go into effect, or what kind of a severance package, if any, they plan on offering to the soon to be displaced workers. With this many job cuts it is fair to say that most types of positions inside the company are set to be impacted by the job cuts at the company. The job cuts are coming primarily to workers in the city of Orlando.

Testimonial of the Week

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.

Only TravelingCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
I like the volume of jobs on EmploymentCrossing. The quality of jobs is also good. Plus, they get refreshed very often. Great work!
