Five senior Galloway Township police officers have applied for retirement, effective January 1, 2013, in order to prevent the layoffs of the five most junior officers on the force. The force strength will remain at 48 members, nearly one third below the level of 69 following the downsizing of 2010. Patrick Moran, the police chief, made the announcement on December 19.
