Like deputies, the corrections officers must be at least 21 years old and hold US citizenship. They must have a high school diploma or GED. Some college or technical school training in criminal justice is preferred.
Corrections officers and deputies also must pass a criminal background check, physical agility check and written exam.
The new salary for a corrections officer is $23,130 — more than $2,000 less than the salary for an entry level deputy.
