Higley Unified School District officials in Arizona have notified 19 teachers and part-time instructors they will be laid off.
That’s up six from the original 13 approved last week.
In addition, the district clarified that 18 aides, not seven as was first reported, were terminated last week. Among those were eight aides who helped with special needs kids.
Higley has 50 openings for instructors. They include preschool, special education, science, dance, French language, science and art.
The district currently has 548 teachers and nearly 600 aides. Altogether, the district has about 1,200 employees.
