Unemployment in Maryland hit 6.9% in March, a nearly 17-year high. Two-hundred and five thousand Marylanders sought jobs last month.
State unemployment has not been this high April 1992. Last March the state’s jobless rate was 3.8%; and the state has lost 59,000 jobs since then.
Maryland added jobs in government and health & education, but lost jobs in retail, construction and financial services.
