Job Growth Continues But Unemployment Rate Rises

Usually, an increase in the number of jobs signals a decrease in the unemployment rate, but in the Atlanta, Georgia metro region, the state labor department reported a 13,500 increase in the number of jobs in May while unemployment increased from 7.6 to 8.2 percent over the previous month. Officials said the unemployment rate increased for seasonal reasons despite the increase in available positions.
