The aging Russian fleet of commercial aircraft has opened the doors for commercial plane makers such as Boeing, Bombardier and Airbus to the airplane replacement market in Russia. These big airline players would be looking at the upcoming MAKS Moscow air show as an opportunity to strike some deals. Russia has been struggling to improve its own airplane manufacturing capabilities and this provides the much needed space for foreign bigger air manufacturers.

Mike Barnett, the Managing Director – marketing of commercial planes division, shared information during the media briefing last Monday that the Russia and the former Soviet Union states have plans to replace 1,170 planes with new ones over the next 20 years. This opens up a business opportunity worth $140 billion for the different global airplane manufacturers. Airbus also feels that the commercial airplane industry in Russia is poised for a rapid growth in the next few years. This growth would be fueled not only by the aging air fleet but also by the strong economic growth witnessed in Russia over the past few years. Due to rising income levels, more Russians are planning to travel by plane to reach far-off destinations within the country. Thus, the different airplane manufactures are eagerly looking forward to this show.
