National Public Radio Lays Off Staffers

National Public Radio will lay off 13 employees.The non-profit broadcaster will also eliminate contributions to employee retirement accounts, reduce medical benefits, add unpaid holidays and furlough all employees for five days this year.
Merit pay increases for 2010 have been eliminated, and 18 unfilled positions will be cut or frozen.
Created in 1970, National Public Radio is a privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organization that serves as a national syndicator for 797 public radio stations in the United States.
