The city of Columbus is going to have to make some tough decisions, and if they are unable to make budget cuts, they are probably going to have layoffs. There are a lot of decisions in which the city council is going to have to make to decide how to effectively reduce their costs. For instance, they have to determine whether to take the hit from around $2 million in insurance costs for medical care, or to pass it down to employees. Tomlinson also claims that the workers comp system is broken and it’s been costing taxpayers a lot of money. Another $1.56 million is under debate, based on whether pensions will include provisions for holiday and overtime pay. It’s going to be hard on everyone if these decisions are followed through with, as it will reduce pay of many city employees. However, if that does not happen, it’s almost certain that in the fiscal year of 2015 there will be a lack of funding and an immediate need to terminate many employees. Not only will this put many people out of a job and cause undue stress on the job market, but it is going to lead to poor services from the city.
