Mayor, Governator Announce Jobs Program for LA Youth

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have announced a federally-funded program to find jobs for 16,500 at-risk youths.The program, Hire LA, works with educators, and with companies like Best Buy, Vons and CVS, to create jobs for young people ages 16 to 24. The program has grown from 3,000 participants in 2005 to 13,500 this year.
Federal funding for the program includes $8 million for jobs, to hire 4,000 youths, as well as $2 million to help out-of-work Angelenos between 21 and 24 find jobs.
