How to Return to Work as a Retiree By jim  |  Dated: 04-08-2014

Even though you might have walked off into the sunset and are enjoying retirement, not every retired person can find peace in not working any longer. When this happens, they begin to look into returning to work in some capacity. This could include returning to the company from which they retired to work part-time, or even just one day per week. Or, they consider finding a part-time job elsewhere.

The part-time job could come at a golf course, a retail store or even a fast-food restaurant. It could be anything that interests them and gets them back into the job force. Well, if you are one of those retirees who no longer wants to sit around the house, follow the tips outlined in this post to get back to work.

If you are looking for a job in retirement, be sure to register with a temp agency in your area. Temp agencies do not care how old you are. Instead, they are looking for the skills and experience you gained during your lengthy career. Let them know everything you have done and can do so they can match you with appropriate jobs. Acquiring work through a temp agency is an excellent way to build your retirement resume for future jobs.

Make an effort to schedule an interview with an employer with whom you have no interest in working for so you can re-learn your interview skills. Think about it; if you retired from a position you held for 15 or more years, it means that you have not interviewed for a job in quite some time. The last thing you want to do is go on your first interview in some 15 years with a company you really want to work for and it does not go well at all.

You absolutely need to update, or even completely re-write, your resume. The resume and cover letter you used 10 years ago, even five years ago, is out-of-date. An expert resume writer can help you update the information and even the format. This will make your job search much easier while retired.

It is an excellent idea to post your updated and revised resume on retirement job boards. These job boards help connect retirees with employers who are looking to hire those who are in retirement.

Project assignments are more often available than full-time jobs, so be sure to look for these when searching for jobs. Also, let the employer know that you are interested in working part-time, temporarily, or from project-to-project. This will help you get more job offers.
