Australia has beaten the U.S. to the punch in inking a new preliminary trade deal with Japan. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, announced the deal as a means of bringing the countries closer together. The U.S. has been pursuing a Trans-Pacific Partnership with Japan for months, hoping to solidify a deal before President Obama’s trip later this month.
