Harvard University has paid the city of Boston, Massachusetts its first installment of jobs funding.

The payment of $383,865 is the first of two Harvard checks to be allocated by the city for job training through the Neighborhood Jobs Trust. Additional payments in support of housing will be made.

As part of a cooperation agreement, Harvard has implemented a wide range of programs and improvements in Boston’s Allston neighborhood. The Harvard Allston Education Portal links 80 Allston schoolchildren with Harvard undergraduates for mentoring in science, math and writing, and is the site for family science activities and a faculty lecture series for community members. Educational scholarships to the Harvard Extension School, Summer School and other enrichment programs are also available to Allston residents.

The funds will also pay for a new community library.

Harvard University is a private university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a member of the Ivy League. Founded in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It is also the first and oldest corporation in North America.
