Wal-Mart to Hire 22,000 US Workers in 2009

Wal-Mart Stores will create more than 22,000 crummy non-union jobs in the US, as it expands stores and opens new locations.In anticipation of its annual shareholders meeting tomorrow, the company announced it will create over 1,000 low-paying jobs each in Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia. The big box retail juggernaut plans to open up to 160 stores in fiscal 2010.
New jobs will include store managers, human resources managers, pharmacists, cashiers, and customer service and sales staff.
Wal-Mart Stores is an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. It is the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, according to the 2008 Fortune Global 500. Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, Wal-mart is the largest private employer in the US, and also the largest grocery retailer.
Wal-Mart employs more than 2.1 million people worldwide in 7,900 stores in 15 countries.
