Between contributions from the Obama administration’s federal stimulus program and the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, WorkReady Philadelphia will be able give temporary summer jobs to 9,000 at-risk young people in the City of Brotherly Love this summer.
The program will get $7.4 million in federal recovery funds. WorkReady employed almost 8,000 youths aged 14 to 21 last Summer.
Ninety-six employers will participate in the program this summer, hiring young people for six weeks. The kids work at least 20 hours a week Monday through Thursday, and then attend professional development classes on Fridays.
