Discover Financial to Lay Off 55

Riverwoods, Illinois’ Discover Financial Services, which announced layoffs of 500 workers in April, will cut 55 jobs at its New Albany, Ohio call center this week.Discover had 1,200 full-time and 500 part-time workers at the end of 2008, making it one of Central Ohio’s largest employers. Discover has 11,500 employees overall.
The Discover Card is a major credit card, issued primarily in the United States. It was originally introduced by Sears in 1985, and was part of Dean Witter, and then Morgan Stanley, until 2007, when Discover Financial Services became an independent company.
