Assurant to Lay Off 90 in Alabama

Assurant Employee Benefits will cut the workforce at its Birmingham, Alabama office by 64%, or 91 employees, by the end of the year.

The layoffs will leave 51 employed, some of whom will be asked to relocate to the firm’s Kansas City, Missouri headquarters.

The company saw a 57% drop in Q1 profits.

Assurant Employee Benefits is a provider of employee benefits insurance products. It was formed in Montana in 1910 as the Montana Life Insurance Company. It is part of New York-based Assurant.
