Memphis, Tennessee’s The Commercial Appeal newspaper may move its printing operations to Journal Publishing in Tupelo, Mississippi, eliminating up to 115 jobs.
The printers’ and mailers’ unions and the Memphis Newspaper Guild oppose the move, doubting that money would be saved.
The Commercial Appeal is the predominant daily newspaper of Memphis, Tennessee and its surrounding metropolitan area. It is owned by The EW Scripps Company, a major North American media firm. Scripps also owned the former afternoon paper, the Memphis Press-Scimitar, which it folded in 1983.
