Caterpillar Laying Off 75 in Illinois

Caterpillar is laying off 75 employees at its Mapleton, Illinois foundry. The company is considering shutting the plant for two months if orders don’t pick up.

The layoffs were announced by the United Auto Workers Local 974. The plant will employ 525 people after the layoffs.

Founded in 1925, Caterpillar is a corporation headquartered in Peoria, Illinois. Caterpillar is the world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines.
