5200 teachers in Connecticut will keep their jobs thanks to $612 million for education from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Federal officials had singled out Connecticut for using the money to shore up holes in its budget instead of investing in schools, prompting state officials to show that they had spent the money to improve schools and keep teachers on the job.
