Lockheed Martin Corp. expects to cut 1,200 U.S. jobs following the merger of two of its electronics units. The job cuts were revealed Wednesday in a press release that outlined the organizational structure of the new business, which is dubbed Mission Systems & Sensors (MS2).
The merger of the units was announced in mid-November and took effect Jan. 1.
“As a result of the anticipated synergies and efficiencies the combination will bring, the company expects to eliminate 1,200 U.S. positions from the MS2 business,” the company said. “Affected employees will be notified in early April.”
Lockheed Martin is a global security company headquartered in Bethesda, Md. It employs about 140,000 people worldwide.
