Vestas Americas Cuts 114 Jobs

Vestas Americas, a subsidiary of Danish company Vestas Wind Systems, has cut 114 jobs at its facilities in Oregon. The company said it cut jobs because of lessening demand for renewable energy projects. Among the jobs cuts were 15 positions at Vestas North American headquarters in Portland. Four Vestas factories in Colorado will not be impacted by the lay offs.These cuts are a considerable setback to efforts by Oregon officials to get Vestas to expand in their states. Last year Vestas delayed plans to move into larger headquarters in Portland. Officials offered Vestas up to $31.5 million in direct incentives to expand. Despite these job cuts Vestas says it expects to hire 1,300 worldwide this year.
