30 Paper Mill Employees Laid Off in South Carolina

Canadian- based AbitibiBowater Inc. has laid off 30 workers at its paper mill plant near Rock Hill, S.C. Affected were salaried workers, who were told Wednesday they no longer had jobs at the plants, the Charlotte Business Journal reports.Human Resources Manager Barry Baker told the publication no production workers were released as part of the cuts. The number of employees at the plant has dwindled to 860 from 940 a year ago, Baker said.
Abitibi is in the midst of a reorganization in bankruptcy court after filing last April with a $6 billion debt.
