95 Let Go at Cessna Aircraft Co.

Cessna Aircraft Co. issued layoff notices on Thursday to 95 employees at its facility in Independence, Kansas.Since 2008, half of Cessna’s total workforce has been let go. In Wichita, Cessna had 12,017 employees two years ago, according to the Wichita Business Journal’s employer list. For comparison, Cessna’s total employment last year was 6,036 workers.
Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver said in an e-mail, “This adjustment is part of the plan developed last year to align production rates with market demand. This change does not impact our already-announced 2010 delivery schedule.”
The Independence facility is where several of the companies single-piston engine models are assembled.
