Kohl’s Bringing 1,000 New Jobs to San Antonio

A new Kohl’s operation center in San Antonio is slated to create 1,000 new jobs in the area over the next three years.Kohl’s received plenty of government support to choose San Antonio as the site for the center with a 10-year lease. The company received $750,000 in incentives from the Texas Enterprise Fund and a 50 percent tax abatement for six years.
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro called the move “an important investment in San Antonio, but some have questioned why the city is awarding incentives for jobs that pay only $14 a hour, or about $30,000 a year, which is well below the area’s median wage of around $40,000, according to the San Antonio Express News.
The operations center will offer credit card and customer services.
Wisconsin-based Kohl’s has three stores in San Antonio and two more in surrounding communities, the story notes. The company has 80 stores in all of Texas.
