NYC Bids Farewell to “Law and Order” And Jobs it Provided

It’s official. NBC’s venerable Law and Order is calling quits after 20 years of production. The show, shot on location in New York City, will take thousands of jobs with it. That according to Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting. Law and Order spent nearly $80 million per year in New York and provided about 4,000 jobs annually, said Oliver. Included in that count are hundreds of local actors who performed guest star and day-player roles on the show. Tony award nominee Jan Maxwell appeared on the show three times during the 1990s — and played a different murderer each time.
