While it has not yet officially announced layoffs, the Jordan School District has declared its intention to make $17.5 million in personnel cuts in an effort to close a $30 million budget deficit. Up to 190 jobs may be eliminated.
In a prepared statement, District Board of Education President Peggy Jo Kennet expressed a desire to balance the budget immediately rather than seek piecemeal solutions: “Our end goal is to responsibly approve a budget that doesn’t require repeated attention to fill an ongoing deficit.”
Jordan School District serves the communities of West Jordan and South Jordan, both suburbs of Salt Lake City.
