Big Apple Has Job Increases In April

According to a recent WSJ posting, New York City added four times more jobs this April – over 20,000 – than it has in that month in any previous year. Unemployment is down two tenths of a percent to 9.8 as well. It peaked in March 2009 at 10.5 percent.The private sector, in areas such as retail and construction, saw increases as did the public sector, says WSJ – particularly federal government positions. Wall Street was back on the street too with job increases in the securities and banking quarter.
Overall, the city’s fortunes were on par, if not even percentage point for percentage, with the rest of the state, whose unemployment rate dropped from 8.6 percent to 8.4. The state added approximately 31,000 jobs as well.
