Toledo to Lay Off Hundred of Teachers, Says Union Head

Toledo Federation of Teachers President Fran Lawrence said late Tuesday that up to 250 teaching positions are on the chopping block for next near in Toledo Public Schools. The District Treasurer, Lawrence also claims, will not certify a new contract extension for employees of the Toledo Public Schools.

Bob Vasquez, president of Toledo Public Schools board, disputes the claim, saying “”I’m surprised there are numbers out there. Negotiations are not over, so no agreement has been reached. I don’t know how anybody could be putting out exactly how many teachers or how many positions can be cut.”
