HP To Shed 9,000 Jobs By 2013 | TravelingCrossing

Seeking to automate many of its services, the tech giant Hewlett Packard announced plans today to cut 9,000 jobs by 2013, says InformationWeek. The shift will cost the company $1 billion over the next several years due to severance and other costs but, as the company reports, will eventually save it the same gross amount per year going forward. Consolidation of IT infrastructure will constitute a large part of those savings.

In addition to the cuts, HP plans to add jobs – about 6,000 – in what it terms “growth” areas. The company is currently throwing its weight behind the development of a more tech service oriented business plan, following in the footsteps of its competitor IBM.
