Flood Forces Opryland to Cut 1,743 Jobs

Reuters is reporting Gaylord Entertainment Co. plans to cut 1,743 jobs at its Opryland hotel in Nashville, Tenn. as a result of the massive flooding that hit the state earlier this year.Gaylord estimated it will cost between $215 million and $225 million to rebuild its properties affected by the flood, which also includes the venerable Grand Ole Opry.
Opryland is currently slated for a November reopening and the Grand Ole Opry is slated to resume in October. Gaylord said affected employees will be brought back six to eight weeks prior to the resumption of operations.
Tennessee, along with Kentucky and Mississippi, continue to deal with the aftermath of massive flash flooding that occurred last month and caused the areas rivers to go beyond their banks.
