Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana, will have no truck with the Obama administration’s current moratorium on Gulf drilling, says Bloomberg. The state has suffered, ecologically, the brunt of the disaster, and its head refuses to accept an economic hit as well. The governor’s open letter to the President was published today. Over two thirds of the oil rigs subject to the drilling ban lay off the coast of the Pelican State.
Incidentally, over two thirds of the state’s pelicans are covered in oil. Jobs are important; however, the underlying issue here is how this country will wean itself from fossil fuels and the mania that led us to this disaster. Many other states have passed initiatives, with gentle urging from the current administration, to encourage companies to invest in “green” jobs and “green” technology. Wake up governor. Take advantage of stimulus dollars and create some progressive, long term jobs for your state.
