115 municipal workers in Lawrence, Massachusetts will be receiving layoff notices within the next two days, according to Lawrence Mayor William Lantigua. Those laid off include 70 police officers and firefighters. The layoffs will go into effect on July 1st unless the city and union members can come to an agreement on concessions to help right $72 million budget shortfall.
The city has already laid off 75 employees of the Lawrence School Department, including 32 teachers. These job cuts are overdue according to the city’s financial overseer Robert Nunes. The city has also received permission from the state to borrow up to $35 million to shore up its budget.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
