Select Medical Laying Off 66 Workers

A notice filed this week with the Missouri Department of Economic Development revealed Select Medical Corp. is closing a facility in Manchester, Mo. and laying off 66 workers.The closure will come Aug. 12, according to the filing. Based in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Select Medical provides long-term acute care along with inpatient and outpatient medical rehabilitation. Bloomberg reports the company had revenue of $2.2 billion in 2009.
The closure comes on the heels of an alliance formed between Select Medical and SSM Health Care – St. Louis, according to Bloomberg. The two groups plan to construct a freestanding hospital that will combine their services. The joint venture will eventually have more than 730 employees.
