KansasCity.com has reported that AT&T Southwest has plans to cut 340 jobs across Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. The layoffs were announced last week and are part of a trend in the telecommunications industry at large resulting from declining sales in traditional land line services. The Kansas City area will take a very light hit as only 14 jobs in the region are slated for elimination.
This past March, AT&T Southwest eliminated an additional 520 jobs regionally. 140 of those jobs were in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Despite the layoffs, AT&T continues to be one of the largest employers in the area, with some 2,000 employees.
