After three times to the breach, a Democratic-sponsored jobs bill fell dying to the senate floor on Thursday.  The over $100 billion package, which had allotments for suffering states across the nation and extensions of benefits for millions of unemployed, failed to gain support from Republicans.  It represents an ongoing battle over the deficit, says Politico.com, as well as a lack of a firm stance by the Obama administration.

The question remains, however: How will this recent failure to reach consensus over what to many seems a no brainer, affect an already struggling economy?  We’ve all heard the maxim “Don’t kick a guy when he’s down.”  The country needs jobs, it need a good jolt to get it back on its feet.  It needs the kind of “no apologies” political maneuvering exhibited by FDR’s administration during the Great Depression.  To wit, it needs guidance and vision, not grandstanding or apathy from its leaders.  Otherwise, future historians and economists will be calling our current economic predicament the “Greater Depression,” not necessarily due to the economy, but moreso over politicians failure to put ideology on the back burner.
