Layoffs Begin With Fiscal Year In Los Angeles

Yesterday, the new fiscal year began for the city of angels with a round of 190 job eliminations, says NBC Los Angeles. More are to come. An additional 232 layoff notices are apparently in the mail.Those workers who lost their job include city library staff, childcare workers and parks and recreation employees. As a result, many libraries will see reduced hours and many city child care centers will be closed down entirely. Apparently it is not all about the children.
Los Angeles, like many urban centers, is having budget problems. A trickle-down effect from the dysfunction of Washington. There are many, many, many more jobs on the chopping block, some 761 plus still to come. Furloughs are imminent as well. June is, traditionally, the gloomiest month in LA, but it’s about to get gloomier.
