First Tennessee Bank is adding 65 new jobs as it plans to bring in-house technology operations that were previously outsourced to several locations.

The data center in Maryville, Tenn. plans to eventually employ about 110 workers. The initial 65 positions will be added over the next 18 months, according to a company press release.

First Tennessee Bank closed the 75,000 square foot data center in the spring of 2008, but it was never sold and will now be reopened. Prior to the closure, the center had about 200 workers.

“The desire to serve our customers better than any other bank is what’s driving us to bring our technology management back inside the company,” said Bruce Livesay, executive vice president and chief information officer for First Horizon National Corp, which uses First Tennessee Bank as a regional banking unit.

First Horizon dates back to 1864 and is one of the top 50 bank holding companies in the U.S., according to its Web site.
