Teachers in the Cincinnati Public Schools district have so far been spared layoffs even as hundreds of teachers in surrounding districts lost their jobs. That is likely to change in the 2011-2012 school year as officials have predicted a $30 million deficit for that year. That kind of budget gap will certainly mean hundreds of layoffs, and many of those who lose their jobs will be teachers.

Superintendent Mary Ronan did not mince words on the subject: “Definitely we’ll be looking at layoffs in the 2011-12 school year.”
